Update on Baby Tobias

So I went to the doctor yesterday and it didn't go well. My cervix is misplaced and my uterus is tilted backwards. And the baby has one of two disorders, one is called Gastroschisis and the other is Omphalocele. Gastroschisis means the baby's intestines are one the outside of his body through a perforation in the stomach. Omphalocele means the intestines are also on the outside of the body but they are connected to the umbilical cord; it also puts the baby at higher risk for a trisomies (chromosomal abnormality) resulting in Down Syndrome or something more severe; it also highly increases the chance of miscarriage, especially given my medical history. Since the baby is so small they can't tell which one it is. So I go back in two weeks for another ultrasound and then probably some testing as well. The links below explain the disorders better. For now all we can do is wait and see.

A Call for Some Mama Advice

Ok, all you mom's out there, I am in need of advice. So I've been to the doctor's office twice in the last month, on the 20 of May and then yesterday. My first appointment was just confirmation of pregnancy and yesterday was my first real pregnant visit. So she gave me my definite due date which is Dec 29, and she did say she would induce me at 39 weeks which would be Monday the 22 and she said I should be home by Christmas. But this gives me a dilemma, I don't know if I want to have the baby before or after Christmas. Well, let me re-phrase that, as I'm sure you can all relate when you get that close you just want to have the baby ASAP, but I am trying to keep this baby's birthday in mind. I feel bad that baby will have a holiday birthday anyway but should it be before or after Christmas? What's your opinion? Granted, all this is assuming my body let's me have any say over this-lol.

So I am 10 weeks and feeling better than I did but still nauseous a lot, she gave me some pills for that but said it will make me really sleepy so I am going to try to take them at night since evenings and early mornings are the worst and that way hopefully I wont be super sleepy during the day at work. We also talked about my previous pregnancies...here's a recap. I have an incompetent cervix (the organ that keeps baby in) due to 3 procedures to remove pre-cancerous cells on my cervix which automatically makes my pregnancies high risk. First pregnancy I lost baby at 17 weeks 5 days on June 16, 2006- did genetic testing, baby had abnormalities and died of cystic hygroma, not sure if my cervix played a role in it or not. Second pregnancy, Addi, I went into pre-term labor at 14 weeks, did genetic testing, amnio synthesis, and a cyrcloge (surgery on cervix to keep baby in) at 16 weeks, on bed rest for three weeks, weekly ultrasounds with maternal fetal medicine specialist, delivered Addi at 38 weeks. So basically I've had a lot of fun-lol.

So yesterday after we went over all this info she feels I need to do the same steps as my pregnancy with Addison. I want to do what is healthy for baby, but that was a lot and I feel better about this pregnancy and don't want to necessarily jump to all those steps if they are not completely needed. I go to see a new MFM specialist in the next two weeks to see what his recommendation is. Part of me feels like I need to do whatever the doctors say and part of me just wants to let me body run its natural course. So do I spend all the money (weekly ultrasounds add up dang fast!) and do what the doctors say to be really sure nothing goes wrong or do I let me body do its thing. Obviously if something horrible happens and I just let me body do its thing I know I would have horrible guilt and I'm not sure I could go through that again. I am trying to pray and put it in God's hands but its really hard for me. I guess I will just wait and see what the specialist says. The baby is doing great though right now!

Also, the pic of me below pregnant is from last March when I was six months pregnant with Addi. I do want to take monthly pregnant pictures this pregnancy so those will come soon. Also, I am a horrible speller so if the medical terminology is spelled wrong sorry!
