A Call for Some Mama Advice

Ok, all you mom's out there, I am in need of advice. So I've been to the doctor's office twice in the last month, on the 20 of May and then yesterday. My first appointment was just confirmation of pregnancy and yesterday was my first real pregnant visit. So she gave me my definite due date which is Dec 29, and she did say she would induce me at 39 weeks which would be Monday the 22 and she said I should be home by Christmas. But this gives me a dilemma, I don't know if I want to have the baby before or after Christmas. Well, let me re-phrase that, as I'm sure you can all relate when you get that close you just want to have the baby ASAP, but I am trying to keep this baby's birthday in mind. I feel bad that baby will have a holiday birthday anyway but should it be before or after Christmas? What's your opinion? Granted, all this is assuming my body let's me have any say over this-lol.

So I am 10 weeks and feeling better than I did but still nauseous a lot, she gave me some pills for that but said it will make me really sleepy so I am going to try to take them at night since evenings and early mornings are the worst and that way hopefully I wont be super sleepy during the day at work. We also talked about my previous pregnancies...here's a recap. I have an incompetent cervix (the organ that keeps baby in) due to 3 procedures to remove pre-cancerous cells on my cervix which automatically makes my pregnancies high risk. First pregnancy I lost baby at 17 weeks 5 days on June 16, 2006- did genetic testing, baby had abnormalities and died of cystic hygroma, not sure if my cervix played a role in it or not. Second pregnancy, Addi, I went into pre-term labor at 14 weeks, did genetic testing, amnio synthesis, and a cyrcloge (surgery on cervix to keep baby in) at 16 weeks, on bed rest for three weeks, weekly ultrasounds with maternal fetal medicine specialist, delivered Addi at 38 weeks. So basically I've had a lot of fun-lol.

So yesterday after we went over all this info she feels I need to do the same steps as my pregnancy with Addison. I want to do what is healthy for baby, but that was a lot and I feel better about this pregnancy and don't want to necessarily jump to all those steps if they are not completely needed. I go to see a new MFM specialist in the next two weeks to see what his recommendation is. Part of me feels like I need to do whatever the doctors say and part of me just wants to let me body run its natural course. So do I spend all the money (weekly ultrasounds add up dang fast!) and do what the doctors say to be really sure nothing goes wrong or do I let me body do its thing. Obviously if something horrible happens and I just let me body do its thing I know I would have horrible guilt and I'm not sure I could go through that again. I am trying to pray and put it in God's hands but its really hard for me. I guess I will just wait and see what the specialist says. The baby is doing great though right now!

Also, the pic of me below pregnant is from last March when I was six months pregnant with Addi. I do want to take monthly pregnant pictures this pregnancy so those will come soon. Also, I am a horrible speller so if the medical terminology is spelled wrong sorry!

XOXO
Sara

sara,
i understand how you feel about the before/after christmas birthdy. my birthday happens to fall in the middle of december which i use to think was the end of the world. now as an adult i love the whole month of december. personally, i would have to say if you did have a say in a delivery time that before because after christmas people are trying to recopperate. either way there are pros and cons....just make sure that you don't do any combined birthday/christmas gifts...i hate those.
thinking about you, i would say being very pregnant through christmas would make it really difficult on you, so before for your sake. everyone can wait on you and the new baby.
as for the doctors on doing procedures or not. it's a hard one becuase you want to trust your body to go through thing natural but i would for my minds sake probably take the precusions and do the procedures. becuase like you i couldn't live with myself.
thinking about you sara.
loves

Good to know Sara, I was thinking you looked a bit big for 10 weeks, but I certainly didn't want to say anything! lol

I would have the baby before Christmas. It will start the festivities off early every year. My mom's birthday is Jan 5th, and becasue it's so close after the holidays everyone is drained and she doesn't always get the attention she deserves.

As far to surgery or not to surgery. I would probably put it off, but I don't know very much about the condition. If it's something that tends to get worse with each pregnancy, It might be better to get it done right off so you don't have to worry so much. I know how you feel about trying to minimize medical expenses. Our insurance is really not very good and all these medical bills just make me wanna cry!

I think you should have baby Tobias before Christmas, it's a crazy enough time as it is! Of course he/she may decide not to give you a choice and come the day before you are scheduled who knows??? As far as the cercloge (sp??) I would have to agree with Nicole and Camille...better to be safe and take precautions you know?

I agree with the whole before Christmas thing.

As far as all the doctor stuff goes, you know I'm a naturalist. But you being high risk, I would listen to the doctors but definitely express concern to have things go as naturally as possible.
